5.4.3.3. eMMC Support

The following types of devices are supported:

  • MMC
  • RSMMC
  • MMCPlus
  • MMCMobile
  • eMMC
Note: Only eMMC devices are currently manufactured. The other devices, although supported, are obsolete. The supported eMMC use cases, with the associated transfer speeds, are listed in the table below. The highlighted cells are modes that were not supported by previous Intel SoC FPGA devices.

Note:
  • SPI mode was obsoleted in MMC 4.41 specification.
  • Hardware reset output pin (RST_n) requires use of a GPIO. This feature is optional in MMCPlus and MMCMobile but mandatory in eMMC.

Supported features:

  • Programmable bus width: 1/4/8 bit
  • Tuning mechanism for HS200 mode (also used in the HS400 tuning sequence)
  • HS400 ES (enhanced strobe) mode, which uses a data strobe from the device, synchronized with command response and data output, eliminating the need for tuning.
  • eMMC command queuing
