A.4. Precision Time Protocol Interface

The Pecisio Time Potocol (PTP) povides 1588 Pecisio Time Potocol timestamp ifomatio as defied i the IEEE 1588-2008 Pecisio Clock Sychoizatio Potocol fo Netwoked Measuemet ad Cotol System Stadad. 1588 PTP logic geeates 96-bit timestamp ifomatio fo tasmitted ad eceived packets. The geeated timestamps epeset the time whe the fist bit afte the Stat of Fame Delimite (SFD) byte cosses the FPGA seial pis (Medium Depedet Iteface, MDI).

I a oe-step TX opeatio, the IP coe updates the PTP message cotet o-the-fly duig the packet tasmissio. The update icludes a 96-bit 1588 v2 fomat timestamp, updated coectio field with esidece time, asymmety delay, ad the pee-to-pee mea path delay. The IP coe sets the UDP/IPv4 checksum field to zeo ad updates exteded bytes to a coect checksum of the UDP/IPv6 packets.

A figepit ca accompay a 1588 PTP packet. Use this ifomatio to associate etued TX timestamp to the tasmitted PTP packet. If you povide figepit ifomatio, the IP coe passes it though uchaged.

The IP coe coects to a Time-of-Day (TOD) module that cotiuously povides the cuet time of day based o the iput clock fequecy.
