6.2. Power Supply

The Power Management User Guide provides information on a wide variety of power related topics. These include Overview, Basics, Power-Up, Power-Down, Reset, Voltage Sensing, Temperature Sensing, and more.

Example Power Trees are shown in the Pin Connection Guidelines along with details on power supply sharing guidelines. Additionally, AN 910: Agilex™ 7 Power Distribution Network Design Guidelines and Agilex™ 7 FPGA Development Kits are also references to review example power trees and their implementations.

You may also refer to AN 910: Agilex™ 7 Power Distribution Network Design Guidelines for information power delivery, board power delivery network recommendations, recommended filters, power down guidelines for unused tiles, voltage regulator recommendations and more.

Certain Agilex™ 7 devices support a Smart Voltage Identification (SmartVID) feature where the device identifies the optimal voltage that it should be operated at and provides this information to the power regulator via a PMBus interface. The PMBus operating mode is application dependent and must be determined prior to board design to ensure all required signals are supported.

CAUTION:
Incorrect implementation may prevent the configuration of the device. Refer to the following resources for more information:
  • Intel FPGA SmartVID - Design Guidance—provides design guidance on recommended power regulators.
  • AN 974: Stratix® 10 and Agilex™ 7 SmartVID Debug Checklist and Voltage Regulator Guidelines
  • SmartVID Debug Checklist for Intel FPGAs

AN 692: Power Sequencing Considerations for Agilex™ 7 Devices provides information on various controlled sequence designs, fault tolerance, and driving unpowered FPGA pins.

Refer to AN 769: Intel FPGA Remote Temperature Sensing Diode Implementation Guide for information on using the on-chip temperature sensing diodes. The guide explains the connection between the TSD and the sensing device, calibration, and other considerations.
