2.10. Sensor Monitoring System

The Agilex™ 5 device introduces the sensor monitoring system that comprises on-chip voltage and temperature sensors. Cyclone® V devices does not support this feature.

You can use on-chip voltage and temperature sensors in the Agilex™ 5 device to monitor external voltages and on-chip operation conditions, such as the internal power rail and on-chip junction temperature.

On-Chip Voltage Sensor

The Agilex™ 5 device voltage monitoring system uses a built-in 7-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). The ADC can sample up to one kilo samples per second (KSPS).

The ADC data output is stored in the SDM. You can read the voltage values in the SDM by using the Mailbox Client Intel FPGA IP or the Mailbox Client with Avalon® -ST Intel FPGA IP.

Temperature Sensor

The Agilex™ 5 device temperature monitoring system allows you to measure the on-chip temperature (TJUNCTION) using local-temperature sensors or remote-temperature sensing diodes (TSDs). The Agilex™ 5 device temperature monitoring system also supports the catastrophic trip signal (nCATTRIP), an optional signal you can assign to any unused SDM_IO pin. You can set the temperature threshold point for nCATTRIP from 95° C to 120° C, in 1° C increments, through the Device and Pin Options window of the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition software.
