5.1.3. Temperature Compensation
Agilex™ 7 devices are able to compensate for performance degradation at colder temperatures by raising the voltage. While raising the voltage increases the dynamic power consumption, the increase in dynamic power consumption is countered by lower leakage at cold temperatures, thus enabling total power consumption at cold temperatures to still be equal or lower than at hot temperatures.
The SmartVID feature supports this dynamic voltage adjustment. The SDM Power Manager checks for local temperature sensor changes and updates the new VID value with voltage step not more than 5 mV if the temperature crosses the threshold point.
Figure 29. Temperature Compensation for SmartVID for Agilex™ 7 Devices—PreliminaryThe SDM monitors the temperature, normally at every 500 ms, and adjusts the voltage by communicating with the power management system. Dynamic voltage adjustment is made by the SDM after the sensor detects the temperature setting changes for every 20±5 °C.
