8.1. Nios® Subsystem

The stream controller module runs autonomously in a Nios® V microcontroller. An interface to the module is created by the Intel® FPGA AI Suite OpenVINO™ plugin when an "external streaming" flag is enabled by the inference application. At startup, the interface checks that the stream controller is present by sending a ping message and waiting for a response.

The following sections describe details of the various messages that are sent between the plugin and the stream controller, along with their packet structure.
