Your computer manufacturer may have restricted the installation of generic Graphics drivers.
Intel provides generic drivers, however your computer manufacturer may have introduced customizations and provide drivers that have been specifically validated for your computer configuration. You can update a customized driver to an Intel generic driver and retain the driver customizations for 6th generation platforms and newer using Intel's latest DCH drivers. However, 5th generation platforms and older are unable to do so and will receive the error message.
Intel suggests contacting your computer manufacturer directly to obtain the latest graphics driver validated for your computer.
You could also allow Windows Update services to automatically find and install the latest driver validated for your system.
- On your keyboard, press the Windows key + X.
- Click on Device Manager.
- Click on Display Adapters.
- Right-click on the Intel Graphics Controller.
Note: If no previous driver has been installed this might be named Microsoft Basic Display Adapteror similar. - Click on Update driver.
- Click on Search automatically for updated driver software.
Windows update will search and automatically install the best and latest driver validated by your computer manufacturer.

Intel strongly suggests reporting this situation/issue to your computer manufacturer so it can be addressed in a future customized driver.

WARNING for Windows 10 users -If you are moving from a non-DCH driver to a DCH driver, DO NOT perform a manual driver installation, also known as INF / Have-Disk method. This action bypasses the Intel installer designed to install these new drivers, thereby possibly resulting in minor to major system instability.
