What is Ray Tracing? How does it work with Intel® Arc™?

Resolution

NoteEven if a game currently supports Ray-Tracing on other manufacturer's GPUs, the game developer will still need to add support for this feature on Intel® Arc™.

Ray tracing is a rendering technique that can produce incredibly realistic lighting effects. Essentially, an algorithm can trace the path of light, and then simulate the way that the light interacts with the virtual objects it ultimately hits in the computer-generated world.

For Intel Arc Graphics users to be able to enjoy the benefits of Ray Tracing, the game or app developer needs to integrate support for this feature into their project.

Intel Arc Graphics feature hardware level ray tracing units, intended to improve performance of this algorithm. For this purpose, any game or app developer looking to take advantage of this feature, will need to integrate it using Microsoft’s DirectX 12 or Vulkan APIs.
