Tri-mode Intel® RAID Controllers (RMSP3/RSP3 families) Do Not Detect More than 64 SAS/SATA Drives

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

How to configure your Tri-mode Intel® RAID Controller to support up to 240 SAS/SATA drives.

Description

Full featured Tri-mode Intel® RAID Controllers (RMSP3/RSP3 families) cannot detect more than 64 SAS/SATA drives.

Resolution

The maximum number of SAS/SATA drives supported on a full featured Tri-mode Intel® RAID Controller depends on the profile setting.

You can change the profile from the UEFI HII Configuration Utility using the steps below:

  1. After the Intel® RAID Controller and the drives are installed, restart the server and press F2 to open the UEFI menu. Follow these steps:
    1. Advanced
    2. PCI configuration
    3. UEFI option ROM control
  2. Under the Storage Controller section, choose the Intel® RAID Controller. Then navigate the menu in the following order:
    1. Main Menu
    2. Controller Management
    3. Advanced Controller Management
    4. Manage Controller Profiles
  3. Choose the desired profile, for example profile#12, to support up to 240 SAS/SATA drives for RAID.
List of other available profiles and their supported configurations:

    Note

From firmware version 5.080.00-1965 (package 50.8.0-2-66) onwards, only profile options that are compatible with the current personality setting and drive type connected are visible.

For example, if the Intel® RAID Controller personality is set to RAID and you have SATA drives connected, you will only see options for profile# 10 and 12.
