Explains "At risk (SMART event)" pop-up message from the Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application.
- SATA SSD connected to a certain controller and a certain port is presenting problems and indicating an SMART event. For example, SATA SSD on Controller 0, Port 2: At risk (SMART event).
- Intel® Optane™ Memory showing error At risk (SMART event).
- Error message reported: Attention Required: One of your disks is at risk (SMART event). Please open Intel® Optane™ Memory and Storage Management application for details.
The message is informing the user that a potential problem has been detected in the Solid-State Drive (SSD), the Intel® Optane™ Memory or the application, and how it communicates with the system.
This notification is typically the result of a standard health monitoring system (SMART) that may have detected an issue with a storage device in the system being managed by the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) driver/controller. It could also be the application not being able to detect RAID or Intel® Optane Memory volumes it was expecting.

- An option may be available in the system BIOS to test the integrity of an SSD. Check with the system vendor to confirm if this is available to test/fix storage devices.
- Check with the storage drive vendor for a tool that can run diagnostics on the drive. Intel, for example, provides the Intel Memory and Storage Tool.
- Utilities in the Windows* OS are also available. Refer to How to Check and Repair Your System Disk Drives for Integrity Issues for additional instructions.
