Intel customer support (ICS) agents need the system product code and serial number in order to provide service. The Intel® Data Center Systems (Intel® DCS) Product Code and Serial Number are available on a sticker on the outside of the chassis. The sticker typically has two barcodes at the top. Above the first barcode is the product code while the system serial number is above the second barcode. See the photo below as an example.

Note Intel® Data Center Systems (Intel® DCS) is formerly Intel® Data Center Blocks (Intel® DCB)

Other methods in extracting the Intel® Data Center Systems (Intel® DCS) Product Code and Serial Number

  1. Use the Sysinfo Utility via UEFI.

The information is located in the Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 section that is shown in the example below:
    -------------------------------------------
    SMBIOS Type 1, Type 2, Type 3
    -------------------------------------------
    System Information (Type 1)
    Manufacturer : Intel Corporation
    ProductName : S2600WFT
    Version Number : LWF2224IR515000
    Serial Number : JKFxxxx00016

    Board Information (Type 2)
    Manufacturer : Intel Corporation
    ProductName : S2600WFT
    Version Number : H48104-851
    Serial Number : BQWFxxxx0365

    1. Download the latest Sysinfo Utility.
    2. Boot the system to UEFI by pressing <F6> and choosing EFI Shell.
    3. Copy the uncompressed zip file into local directory on your server, for example, FS0:\sysinfo.
    4. Go to UEFI folder.
    5. Run the sysinfo.efi. This creates two log files in the directory \Logfiles (sysinfo_log.txt, PCI_log.txt).
    6. Open the sysinfo_log.txt using a text viewer app.
  2. Using the IPMI utility in the Operating System or remotely
Note IPMI packages will need to be installed and enabled prior to using the command below.

    Local IPMI command

    #ipmitool fru print
This command is much less verbose, and it includes serial number and asset tag.

    From remote host
    # ipmitool -I lanplus -U <YOUR BMC ADMIN USER> -P <BMC PASSWORD -H <IP of TARGET MACHINE> fru print
This command is the same as above, but you need to know the IP Address of the target system.

  3. Using the BMC web console, can be accessed remotely for as long as the BMC IP Address was configured or known and user was enabled in the BIOS

Once accessed, go to System tab->FRU Information.

  4. Generate debug log and upload it to Server Log Advisor to determine System's Product Code and Serial Number

Note

If for some reasons a system board got replaced, it is required to update the FRU field of the replacement board using the previous FRU information. This is to maintain the same system's FRU record when calling Intel Customer Support.

The FRU update steps can be done during BIOS/Firmware update process and through ipmitool* command as shown below

Product Part Number/TA Number:
ipmitool -I lanplus -H IP Address -U username -P password -C17 fru edit 0 field p 2 [TA Number]

Product Version/Product Code:
ipmitool -I lanplus -H IP Address -U username -P password -C17 fru edit 0 field p 3 [Product Code]

Product Serial Number:
ipmitool -I lanplus -H IP Address -U username -P password -C17 fru edit 0 field p 4 [Serial Number]
