Water Restoration in Mexico
To support Intel’s commitment to achieve net positive water, we have funded one water restoration project benefiting Mexico. Once fully implemented, this project will restore an estimated 35 million gallons each year.
This page provides a summary of Intel-funded projects to support Mexico water resources.
Kilimo Precision Agriculture
Location: Lerma River, Mexico
Implementation Partner: Kilimo and Nuup
Estimated Restoration Benefit1: 35 million gallons per year when fully implemented
Project Status: Initiated in 2022
Project Description: The use of technology solutions, artificial intelligence (AI), and site-specific data (such as satellite imaging, precipitation measurement, and crop soil moisture) can help develop tailored irrigation scheduling for a variety of high value crops. With these tools, the objectives of this project are to improve agricultural irrigation management and productivity, reduce water demand, and protect groundwater and surface water resources in the Lerma Basin of Mexico.

2030 Goal: Net Positive Water Use
Over the last two decades, our sustainable water management efforts have enabled us to conserve billions of gallons of water and return approximately 80% of our water use back to our communities. Now, we are broadening our focus to achieve net positive water use by conserving 60 billion gallons of water and funding water projects that restore more fresh water than we consume to our local watersheds.
