Water Conservation Programs in Penang Schools
Location: Penang, Malaysia
Implementation Partner: CLEAN International
Estimated Restoration Benefit1: 43 million gallons per year
Project Status: Initiated in 2021, with partial benefits starting in 2022
Project Description: Although Malaysia receives high rainfall, some states such as Penang are under water stress due to increasing demand. The objective of the project is to conserve water through the installation of water saving features at 100 schools in Penang, including push taps on faucets and urinals, as well as pressure reduction washers to decrease flow rates. Throughout the program, students will play a primary role in the establishment of a water conservation program and ongoing education about the importance of water.
