1.7. Generating Example Designs for Altera* IP
A selection of Altera* IP cores include example designs that you can use or modify to replicate similar functionality in your own system. You must generate the example design HDL from the parameter editor before you can view or use the example. The Example Design icon identifies Altera* IP cores that have example designs available for generation.

Following these steps to generate an available example design:
- In the IP Catalog, use the Example Design (blue) icon to identify Altera* IP cores that have example designs for generation.
Figure 12. Example Design Icon Indicates Example Design Available
- Depending on the specific Altera* IP, use either of the following to generate the HDL for the example design:
- Double-click the IP component in the IP Catalog. The parameter editor for the component appears. If available, click the Example Design button in the parameter editor to generate the example design. The Example Design button only appears in the parameter editor if an example is available.
- For some IP components, click Generate > Generate Example Design to access an example design. This command only enables when a design example is available.
