Introducing the Intel® Server System M70KLP
Intel® Server System M70KLP sets a new standard for 2U, upper-end mainstream servers by combining surprising density with extraordinary versatility for both scale-up or scale-out workloads.
Featuring up to four 3rd Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, these servers are equally at home running compute-intensive or memory-intensive workloads, such as database, data warehouse, analytics and more—in the data center, or cloud. They also enable greater VM and container consolidation to reduce footprint and TCO.
These servers are also easy to deploy, own and manage—with hardware-enhanced security and RAS features to maximize business resiliency. And, they’re backed by Intel’s proven, global support and service.

The Case for 4-Socket Servers for Mainstream Needs
The Intel® Server System M70KLP provides the capacity headroom necessary for performance-hungry and memory-bound scale-up workloads, such as analytics, database and more. The platform also supports Intel® Optane™ persistent memory 200 series, enabling up to 4.5 TB of system memory per processor—or up to 15 TB of system memory per server—in App Direct Mode.
Performance
- Maximum performance per node with highest memory bandwidth and I/O lanes.
- Twice the PCIe lanes possible by doubling CPU lanes.
- More NVMe drives.
- More SAS connectivity.
- Attach sets of GPUs to CPUs.
Scalability
- Increased core count/rack and VMs/rack.
- More CPUs, memory, PCIe expansion per node.
- Scale-up headroom.
- Higher VM/container density.
- Fewer stranded resources.
Cost Efficiency
- Lower total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Consolidated per node costs.
- Lower management software costs.
- Reduced network costs.
- Lower overhead costs.
The Perfect Bridge Between Scale Up and Scale Out
The Intel® Server System M70KLP is a great, high-performance, low-TCO choice for common, scale-out workloads that dominate the data center, reducing sprawl, per-node licensing costs, and management and operating expenses.
Cloud
- Consolidate scale out workloads.
- Distributed web scale cache stores that provide in-memory caching of key-value type data (Memcached, Redis, KeyDB).
- Containerized deployments (Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, etc.).
Analytics
- Big-data processing engines such as Apache Spark or Presto.
- Applications performing real-time processing of big unstructured data (financial services, Hadoop/Spark clusters).
- Ingest applications (typically government/ defense), where large data gets consumed, manipulated, then stored for later post-processing on other platforms.
In-memory Database
- In-memory databases using optimized data storage formats and analytics for business intelligence (e.g.: SAP HANA).
- Distributed web scale cache stores that provide in-memory caching of key-value type data (Memcached, Redis, KeyDB).
Virtual Machine (VM) /Container Density
- More VMs, fewer stranded resources.
- Large VM (VMware, oVirt, KVM, etc.).
Scale-Up
- High-performance, relational (MySQL, Postgres, Oracle, DB2) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
- Big memory High-performance computing (HPC. i.e. reservoir simulation) and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) applications.
