AtomBeam Data Compaction
About this offer
Data creation, transmission, and storage are growing at exponential rates, and IoT devices are being deployed by the billions. Existing 2G & 3G networks, along with low-end LPWANs are being deployed to support IoT devices. Both IoT devices and the supporting networks are severely resource constrained by bandwidth, power, storage and time/latency. The only solution to solve these constraints is sending less data. Compression is a potential option, but has many inherent limitations. AtomBeam’s unique system uses AI/machine learning to dramatically reduce the data transmitted and stored – with low latency, error tolerance, and support for small IoT data packages. This whitepaper explains the AtomBeam system which companies can integrate to address the exponential growth in data and satisfy the resource-constraints of IoT devices. Contemporary computing and communications are best characterized by exponential growth. Growth in numbers of computers, smart mobile devices, data created, and data transmitted. By 2025, it is expected that there will be over 50 billion IoT (Internet of Things) devices, and 150 zettabytes (a billion-trillion) of data. The number of network-connected devices is growing at an even faster rate, given the advent of mobile computing, wearables and IoT, with over 20 billion IoT devices expected to be network-connected. New networks (i.e. 5G) are being invented; however, they are costly to deploy, and many IoT devices cannot use these networks due to inherent limitations in CPU horsepower, and battery power. Alternative technologies such as LPWANs (low power wide area networks), and 2G/3G cellular networks are more likely to support these IoT devices, and these networks are designed for low power usage but have limited bandwidth. The only viable solution to the massive growth in data transmitted and stored is to fundamentally change the encoding method. In short – send less data! While compression algorithms can reduce the size of the data load, compression has inherent disadvantages. Algorithms take time to process (computational latency). Compression is inherently sensitive to error-prone networks (i.e. wireless & satellite). It is ineffective for small data packages. And entire files must be decompressed in order to be accessed and searched – a lengthy process. Compression is simply NOT optimized for IoT. AtomBeam addresses all of these issues with a completely unique approach using machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) - to learn, encode and reduce the data size for transmission and storage, all with minimal computational latency and a host of other benefits. AtomBeam Use Cases: Because AtomBeam learns each data type individually, it can be used for a wide variety of applications – from IoT, to mobile computing, to storage. It provides the greatest impact where resources are constrained by network bandwidth, CPU horsepower, battery power or storage. IoT applications (including smart cities, smart buildings, connected cars, utility monitoring, logistics, smart agriculture and smart homes) and remote monitoring are some of the most noteworthy use cases for AtomBeam precisely because they are resource constrained. Storage space will continue to be issue into the future, and AtomBeam is also an ideal solution to address cloud and datacenter storage reduction – for a broad spectrum of industries and applications.

AtomBeam’s compaction software is the invention of the lightbulb for IoT. It’s a big claim, but we think that AtomBeam will impact IoT in the same way the electric light changed everyday living. Many key impediments to IoT adoption can be overcome with the simple addition of our compaction software.
