Intel And Stratus Unveil E-Business Program For Financial Services

MAYNARD, Mass. and SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 18, 2001 -- Intel Corporation and Stratus Technologies Inc. today announced the e-Business Solutions Program for Financial Services, a joint effort to bring a new generation of low-cost, high-availability computing systems to the securities and banking industries.

The program is intended to accelerate development and availability of turnkey solutions for critical applications in these vertical markets, and to jointly promote these system offerings to customers. Built around Intel® Xeon™ processor-based Stratus® ftServer™ platforms and financial application software from leading software solution providers such as Getronics, these new solutions will focus on two core areas of service delivery and process management:

  • Straight-Through Processing:
  • A completely automated e-business method of integrating and processing portfolio management, order management, order routing, clearing and settlement within securities trading.

  • Multi-Channel Delivery:
  • A way of using multiple systems to electronically assist branch banking, Internet banking, banking by phone, PC banking, multi-channel access, electronic customer relationship management and electronic bill payment.

Future Intel Itanium™-based systems are planned for use in the program in 2002. "The instantaneous, always-on nature of the Internet has had a profound impact on the financial services market," said John Davies, vice president, Intel Architecture Group. "Regulatory requirements, increasing transaction volumes, and market demands for secure access to information and data are driving the need for broadly deployable, standards-based e-Business solutions. To meet this need, Intel and Stratus are working together to accelerate the development and delivery of repeatable, high availability solutions on Intel-based Stratus ftServer platforms."

David Flawn, vice president, Industry Marketing & Business Development for Stratus, said, "Few computer makers truly understand the nature of mission-critical computing in the enterprise better than Stratus, particularly in the financial services sector. Now with our fault-tolerant ftServer family, no company is able to deliver a more cost-effective hardware platform with higher reliability than Stratus. We are extremely pleased to have this opportunity to work with Intel and other leading firms to create versatile, powerful new solutions for banking and securities customers."

In addition to engaging in joint sales calls, Stratus and Intel will actively participate in matchmaking with e-Business Solution Providers, advertising, marketing, sales support and speaking at industry conferences and exhibitions.
