Intel, Kentucky Fried Chicken Co-sponsor PC Education Program

BEIJING, Nov. 30, 1997 – Intel Corporation and Kentucky Fried Chicken jointly announced in Beijing today an innovative PC education program, aiming at providing consumers a chance to familiarize themselves with the PC while they enjoy their meal.

Called the "PC Party at K.C.F.," the program will run from Dec. 1, 1997, to Jan. 31, 1998. More than 20 OEMs, including Legend, Great Wall, Tontru, Founder, HiSense, Dell, Hewlett Packard and Compaq, as well as Genuine Intel Dealers (GIDs) will participate in the program.

"Intel is devoted to PC education in China," said Martin S. Wu, marketing manager of Intel China. "We hope to contribute to social development by utilizing our technology. And the Intel-K.F.C. program is just another one of the many PC education activities we have conducted so far."

At designated times, diners at K.F.C.'s Qianmen, Zhongguancun, Anzhenqiao, Fangzhuang, Andingmen, Mingxing, Hangtian Bridge and Debao outlets will be able to enjoy software demos and get to know the ABCs of PCs. If they spend more than 35 yuan (US$4.20), they will also receive a complimentary chess game board on which PC facts are printed. When they play chess, they can learn about the PC at the same time. If a diner goes on to fill out the questionnaire attached to the chess board and leave it in the lucky draw box at Intel-recommended GIDs, he or she will receive a gift. All those doing so will have a chance to win the New Year Lucky Draw. The top 10 winners will receive a 3,000 yuan (US$360) cash rebate from Intel if they buy a Pentium® II processor-based PC.

Participants who present the special triangle-shape slip on the chess board when they buy a PC at any Intel-recommended store will receive an Intel watch with a Pentium II processor logo as gift.

"We will keep up the momentum to popularize the PC through easy and attractive ways. The cooperation between Intel and K.F.C. provides Chinese families an innovative and interesting way to learn while dining," Wu said.

Since its entrance into China in 1987, K.F.C. has regarded as its duty to promote the social development and the healthy growth of Chinese children. Among many of its activities are donations to the Hope Project and sending presents to schools and kindergartens near its outlets.

"While seeking for self-development, K.F.C. always cares about the development of the society," said Mr. Jacob Tsui, general manager of K.F.C. Beijing Co. Ltd.. "We are happy to cooperate with Intel and jointly make our contributions to the PC education of teen-agers."

Intel has been actively promoting PC education in China. Its contribution in this field is highlighted in a series of activities, including the opening of the Intel PC Workshop in Beijing, the Computer Popularization Day on June 1, 1997 and the Intel Home PC Parties in major cities all over China.

The cooperation between Intel and K.F.C. is the first of its kind between a leader in Information Technology and a well-known Food & Beverage brand. This could be a good example how high-tech companies can join hands with pure consumer companies in promoting science knowledge.
