Philippine President Fidel Ramos Opens First Intel Facility in Cavite
First of a Multi-Stage Expansion for Intel Philippines
MANILA, April 8, 1997 -- President Fidel V. Ramos today opened the first facility in Intel Philippines' newest manufacturing plant at the Gateway Business Park in General Trias, Cavite. The plant will assemble and test the latest Intel microprocessors, including Pentium® processors, Pentium Pro processors, Pentium processors with MMX™ media enhancement technology, and PCIsets.
At the inauguration today, Ken Thompson, vice president of Intel Technology and Manufacturing Group, said, "Intel is committed to a long-term investment in the Philippines. The facility will continue to be a world-class high-technology manufacturing site assembling and testing Intel's latest state-of-the-art products."
As announced earlier, this is the first of a multistage development by Intel in the 20 hectare site at the Gateway Business Park in General Trias. The initial investment in Cavite totals 23.4 billion Pesos (approx. U.S. $500 to 600 million) from 1996 to 2001. The Cavite facility is an expansion of the existing Intel operation in Makati.
The Intel Cavite operations, Intel Technology Philippines Inc, will be headed by Jun Fernandez and Lito Zulaybar. The facility (CV1) is approximately 600,000 square feet and will employ around 2,000 people.
Prior to the inauguration, Intel also broke ground for a second facility in Cavite which will cover approximately 240,000 square feet. It is scheduled to begin operation in June 1998.
