Why does Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software Power and Thermal Calculator report page display a VCCIO_PIO_SDM  voltage for Agilex™ 7 devices different from the 3A bank voltage?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • Intel® FPGA Power Thermal Calculator
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

According to the Agilex™ 7 Device Family Pin Connection Guidelines, the 3A bank power supply and VCCIO_PIO_SDM should be connected together.

However, due to a problem in Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software Power and Thermal Calculator  (PTC) tool, the Report page displays the voltage of the 3A bank correctly, but the voltage of VCCIO_PIO_SDM does not match it.

    Resolution

You should follow the Agilex™ 7 Device Family Pin Connection Guidelines for your board design in accordance with your specific conditions/requirements.

VCCIO_PIO_SDM is a sense pin, and the current drawn by it is negligible in the report. This misreport does not noticeably affect the overall PTC calculations and thus can be ignored.
