Why does the F-Tile Ethernet FPGA Hard IP fail to simulate when configured for MII PCS only, PCS66 OTN, and PCS66 Flex using the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 22.4 and 23.1 on the Agilex™ 7 devices?

Environment

  • Intel® Quartus® Prime Pro Edition
  • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description

Due to a problem in the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software version 22.4 and 23.1, the F-Tile Ethernet Hard IP and F-tile Auto-Negotiation and Link Training for Ethernet IP will fail to simulate when the client interface is set as MII PCS only, PCS66 OTN and PCS66 FlexE when using on Agilex™ 7 devices with the following OPNs:

    • AGMA032R31Bxxxx
    • AGMA039R31Bxxxx
    • AGMB032R31Bxxxx
    • AGMB039R31Bxxxx
    • AGME032R47Axxxx
    • AGME039R47Axxxx
    • AGMF032R47Axxxx
    • AGMF039R47Axxxx
    • AGMG032R47Axxxx
    • AGMG039R47Axxxx
    • AGMH032R47Axxxx
    • AGMH039R47Axxxx
    Resolution

To avoid this simulation failure, you can adopt the following two workarounds:

    1. Change the device OPN. The simulation will pass if the OPN is not in the above description list.
    2. Change the client interface. The simulation will pass if the client interface is set as MAC segmented or MAC Avalon ST.

This problem will be fixed in a future release of the Quartus® Prime Pro Edition Software.
