No, the BYTE# pin cannot configure the flash memory to operate in byte mode (8-bit wide mode). The enhanced configuration device controller requires that the flash memory is in word mode (16-bit wide mode). Therefore, you should connect the BYTE# pin to VCC without a pull-up resistor. Do not toggle this pin or connect it to ground or any other signal.
