Why does configuration of the Stratix III EP3S340 device fail when using the EthernetBlaster download cable?

Environment

  • Quartus® II Subscription Edition
    • BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
    Description
    Configuration of the the Stratix® III EP3S340 device may fail when using the EthernetBlaster download cable with the following error messages in Quartus® II software :

    Error: Can't find JTAG Server
    Error: Unexpected error in JTAG server -- error code 44
    Error: Unexpected error in JTAG server -- error code 44
    Error: CONF_DONE pin failed to go high in device 1
    Error: Unexpected error in JTAG server -- error code 44
    Error: Unexpected error in JTAG server -- error code 44
    Error: Operation failed

    In the meantime you may use a USB-Blaster™ download cable to configure the device.
     
    The issue does not affect programming of the volatile or non-volatile key into the Stratix III  EP3S340 devices using the EthernetBlaster download cable with Quartus II software.
    Resolution This is fixed in the Quartus II software version 9.0.
