Why does my installation hang at 1% when using the installer version 10.0 rev2 for the Altera software?

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description

Due to a problem in the Altera® software installer versions 10.0 rev2 and 10.0 SP1, installation on a Windows computer may hang at 1% and not complete.

To work around this problem, install the Altera software from the Windows command line.

The problem is fixed beginning with the Altera Complete Design Suite version 10.1.
