Why does my lpm_counter function start at an undefined value (<I>x</I>) in APEXTM 20K and FLEX® 6000 designs?

Environment

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Description A lpm_counter function starts at an undefined value (x) if the ASET, ACLR, or ALOAD port of the counter is used. Since APEX 20K and FLEX 6000 devices do not have asynchronous preset ports in their registers, the ASET and ALOAD signals are emulated in APEX 20K and FLEX 6000 devices.

To set the counter to a known state, whether on the board or in simulation, reset the counter on power-up. The counter will start counting at a defined value. If the ASET, ACLR, or ALOAD port is not used, the output automatically starts counting at a defined value.
