Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) is an enterprise RAID solution that unleashes the performance of NVMe* SSDs. Intel® VROC is enabled by a feature in Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors called Intel® Volume Management Device (Intel® VMD), an integrated controller inside the CPU PCIe root complex. NVMe* SSDs are directly connected to the CPU, allowing the full performance potential of fast storage devices to be realized. Intel® VROC enables these benefits without the complexity, cost, and power consumption of traditional hardware RAID host bus adapter (HBA) cards placed between the drives and the CPU.

The supported NVMe* SSDs by Intel® VROC are shown in the table below. Keep in mind the following considerations while navigating through the supported NVMe* SSDs list below.

What you should know about the Intel® VROC supported NVMe* SSDs
  • The supported drives are shown by vendor and listed by product name.
  • Intel® VROC support will exist for any form factor (for example, M.2, U.2, U.3, EDSFF, etc.) within the specific product name. The latest available SSD firmware must be used for all environments.
  • Each SSD is noted next to the first Intel® VROC revision that included support for the specific product name. Once an NVMe* SSD is on the support list, no further compatibility verification will be required. Intel recommends using the latest available Intel® VROC revision.
  • Support for NVMe* SSDs in this list is also extended to all operating systems supported by Intel® VROC.
  • Any platform level or form factor level limitations supersede Intel® VROC functionality. For example, M.2 devices do not support hot-plug or LED management; therefore, the respective Intel® VROC features will not be supported with M.2 devices.
  • Important: Any NVMe* SSD not listed below may still function with Intel® VROC, but support is not provided. Unsupported drives may or may not behave properly with Intel® VROC and the use of those drives is not recommended.

The table below includes only SSDs from manufacturers other than Intel. All Intel-branded NVMe* SSDs manufactured by Intel Corporation are supported by all versions of Intel® VROC. Solidigm*-branded drives (formerly Intel® NAND SSDs) are not supported in this configuration. Solidigm SSDs are specifically mentioned in the below list if they are supported.

The NVMe* SSDs in the list below are supported on any Intel® VROC-capable platform as long as the user's platform is running the Intel® VROC revision mentioned in the table or a newer revision. Additional NVMe* SSDs may be supported at the OEM or platform provider level. Contact your OEM or platform provider for a full list of NVMe* SSDs supported for a given platform or Intel® VROC revision.
