  • Intel ARC installer will open but crashes after it finishes and total black screen after restart and only a rollback fixes the issue
Resolution

To resolve the issue, follow these troubleshooting steps.

  1. Ensure you downloaded the correct driver for Intel® Arc™ A-Series Graphics driver.
  2. Use a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to remove any older drivers.
  3. Update system BIOS and chipset drivers to the latest version from the motherboard manufacturer.
  4. Disconnect from the internet to avoid Windows from automatically updating the driver via Windows Update.
  5. Disable any antivirus or firewall software that may interfere with the driver installation.
  6. Run the driver installer as an administrator by right-clicking on the file and selecting "Run as administrator."

The issue can be fixed by repairing the Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime:

1. Search for Add/Remove Programs

2. Look for the latest Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime on the list

3. Click the meatballs menu  and click on Modify

4. Select Repair on the succeeding menu

5. Close the Window when finished

Two more steps are available to try if these options fail:

  1. Perform a manual installation of the driver via the device manager. Refer to the below steps:
    1. Download the driver file from the Download Center.
    2. Once downloaded, right-click on the EXE file. Select "Open with" and choose your archive extractor tool from the list.
    3. Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
    4. Expand the Display adapters category and locate your Arc A770 graphics card. Right-click on it and select Update driver.
    5. Choose Browse My Computer for drivers and then click on Browse. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the driver files and select it. Make sure the Include subfolders option is checked, and then click Next.
    6. Wait for the installation process to complete. You may need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
    7. Open Device Manager to verify that the driver is installed correctly. Go to Display Adapters, double-click over your Arc Device, and select the Driver tab to check the driver version installed.
NoteThis method will not install any other software included in the driver package.
  2. If these steps do not resolve your problem, perform a Windows 11 Clean Installation.
