Information about how to determine which 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors support dedicated Intel® QAT hardware.
Do all Sapphire Rapids support Intel QAT (QuickAssist Technology)?
All 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors support the Intel® QAT Acceleration Technology, which means the Intel® QAT driver can be installed and used, however depending on the processor SKU, there may or may not be dedicated Intel® QAT hardware available. If there is dedicated Intel® QAT hardware in the processor, the Intel® QAT driver will use it for the acceleration operation, freeing up the CPU cores from those tasks; but if there is no dedicated Intel® QAT hardware available, the Intel® QAT driver will run using the CPU cores.
To determine which processor SKU has dedicated Intel® QAT hardware available, refer to ARK. For example, the Intel® Xeon® Gold 6430 Processor does not have dedicated Intel® QAT hardware (and there is no available upgrades via Intel On Demand either). It will still run the Intel® QAT driver but using the CPU cores, that's why the line Intel® QuickAssist Software Acceleration says Yes.
This other example, for the Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8480+ Processor, has dedicated Intel® QAT hardware available by default (and also has more available via an Intel On Demand upgrade). This is noted in ARK under Advanced Technologies. Any SKU that has dedicated Intel® QAT hardware available will list it in the Advanced Technologies section.
A comparison of these two processors is available here.
A list of 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors that have the option to add dedicated Intel® QAT hardware via an Intel On Demand upgrade is available at 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processors On-Demand Model Information.
