Troubleshooting steps to resolve the warning message related to event ID 37
My PC runs slowly and unstably and received a warning message of Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Processor-Power in the Windows event log. (Event ID 37).
Kernel processor power event ID 37 is logged when the hardware platform determines that the OS can't use some frequency range that the processor supports. This Warning event notifies the user that the processor or CPU core can't support running at full speed.
This message does not indicate a hardware issue, it just notifies that CPU performance has been limited and could be caused by thermal limit, power limit, or current limit.
This can happens due to the below reasons:
- Motherboard BIOS default setting is aggressive to power/thermal limitations. Set BIOS to its default values. Contact your motherboard vendor for BIOS instructions and questions.
- The cooling solution is not enough or not installed properly to keep the hardware cool. Ensure you have an appropriate cooling system. Refer to How to Choose Thermal Solutions for Intel® Core? Boxed Desktop Processor.
