I'm replacing my current graphics card (from a third party) with an Intel Arc Graphics card. Should I uninstall the graphics driver before installing the Intel Arc Graphics card?
Yes, we recommend that you uninstall third party graphics drivers before installing an Intel® Arc™ Graphics card.
Follow the steps below to completely uninstall a third party graphics driver before swapping your third party graphics card to an Intel Arc Graphics card:
- Disconnect from the internet to make sure the driver will not be automatically updated by Windows.
- Open the Device Manager by right-clicking the Windows Start button. Select Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters section.
- Identify the third-party graphics device among the options listed.
- Right-click on the third-party graphics and click Uninstall.
- In the device removal dialog box, check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.
- Restart the computer after the uninstallation is complete.
- Open the Device Manager.
- Expand the Display adapters section again.
- If no older drivers are stored in the system, the graphics device in Device Manager should no longer appear. If not, repeat steps 4 through 6.
- Reboot the computer when prompted.
If the Device Manager method fails, you may use the Display Driver Uninstaller to uninstall the third party graphics drivers.
