Description

I'm replacing my current graphics card (from a third party) with an Intel Arc Graphics card. Should I uninstall the graphics driver before installing the Intel Arc Graphics card?

Resolution

Yes,  we recommend that you uninstall third party graphics drivers before installing an Intel® Arc™ Graphics card.

Follow the steps below to completely uninstall a third party graphics driver before swapping your third party graphics card to an Intel Arc Graphics card:

  1. Disconnect from the internet to make sure the driver will not be automatically updated by Windows.
  2. Open the Device Manager by right-clicking the Windows Start button. Select Device Manager.
  3. Expand the Display adapters section.
  4. Identify the third-party graphics device among the options listed.
  5. Right-click on the third-party graphics and click Uninstall.
  6. In the device removal dialog box, check Delete the driver software for this device and click OK.
  7. Restart the computer after the uninstallation is complete.
  8. Open the Device Manager.
  9. Expand the Display adapters section again.
  10. If no older drivers are stored in the system, the graphics device in Device Manager should no longer appear. If not, repeat steps 4 through 6.
  11. Reboot the computer when prompted.

If the Device Manager method fails, you may use the Display Driver Uninstaller to uninstall the third party graphics drivers.
