Information to determine what RAID management solution is supported by the system.
Unable to determine if a platform supports Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) or Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST).
Consult the system vendor |
Intel® VROC support is highly dependent on the platform capabilities enabled by the manufacturer. Contact the system or motherboard manufacturer to confirm what RAID solution is supported in a specific platform. Some systems may work with Intel® RST, Intel® VROC, or may even use a completely different RAID solution. |
The following items can help to determine which RAID solution is supported by the platform:
- Type of system: Intel® VROC is an enterprise-oriented solution; regular domestic/consumer platforms will generally use Intel® RST as their RAID management solution.
- Available drivers and marketing material: Some manufacturers may have a dedicated summary or driver page for each platform. This can help determine if the system uses Intel® VROC, Intel® RST, or other RAID solution. For example, search for the available driver downloads for a specific system or motherboard in the website of the manufacturer, and look for storage or RAID drivers/controllers.
- Technical documentation available: Different technical documents for the platform may indicate what feature is available and how it can be configured. For example, the Intel® Server Board S2600WF Product Family TPS (Intel® VROC) or the Intel® NUC NUC10i5FN TPS (Intel® RST).
- Intel® Volume Management Device (Intel® VMD): Intel® VROC is supported only by Intel® Xeon Processors with Intel® VMD enabled. This feature can be verified under Advanced Technologies in the Intel ARK specifications page of the processor. For example, the Intel ARK page of the Intel® Xeon® Gold 6238R Processor.
If you have an X299 system, check the information in Announcement: Intel® Virtual RAID on CPU (Intel® VROC) Support on X299 Platforms.
