Description

  • Why do we need the Intel Gaussian Mixture Model module showing in device manager? What is it responsible for?
  • Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1911 Driver: Intel Gaussian Mixture Model - 1911 (SkylakeSystemGMM.inf)

Resolution

The Intel® Gaussian Mixture Model is a component of the Intel Neural Network Accelerator (GNA). This is an artificial Intelligence (AI) co-processor inside the actual processor die.

The primary intended usage (but not limited to) is the Automated Speech Recognition domain. The GNA is designed to unload the processor cores and the system memory with complex speech recognition tasks and improve the speech recognition accuracy.

If Intel Gaussian Mixture Mode is enabled in Device Manager then it means this component is activated through the computer BIOS/UEFI. Consult with your computer manufacturer for details and latest drivers for this component.
