Is There a Limit to the Number of Video Encodes (to H.264) You Can Do at the Same Time with the Intel® Core™ i7-12700K Using FFMPEG Software?

Environment

Intel® Core™ i7-12700K

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

Limitation on amount of video encodes (to H.264) that can be simultaneously undertaken with an Intel® Core™ processor.

Description

Unable to determine how many concurrent videos encode (to H.264) can be undertaken on Intel® Core™ i7-12700K using FFMPEG.

Resolution
  • There is no theoretical limit to the number of concurring videos encodes that can happen simultaneously, at least not from the driver and graphics unit perspective.
  • The practical limit is going to be defined by the overall hardware configuration and the software you are using. For example, running 3 simultaneous encode jobs and starting a 4th one can be possible on a system with 16GB of memory, but the same experience may be slower on a similar system with 12GB.
