Summary

Steps to follow when a bluescreen of death (BOD) with the error message "DRIVER VERIFIER DMA VIOLATION" appears in an Intel® Server Board M50CYP2SBSTD BIOS, after enabling the Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) for Directed I/O (Intel® VT-d) setting.

Description

Unable to avoid a bluescreen of death (BOD) with the error message DRIVER VERIFIER DMA VIOLATION after enabling the Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) for Directed I/O (Intel® VT-d) setting in the BIOS of an Intel® Server Board M50CYP2SBSTD.

Resolution

In order to fix the bluescreen of death (BOD) with the error message DRIVER VERIFIER DMA VIOLATION you need to make sure:

Enabling the Intel® Virtualization Technology (Intel® VT) for Directed I/O (Intel® VT-d) setting in the BIOS the Limit CPU PA to 46 bits setting must be set to enable (disabled as default) in order to limit the CPU physical address to 46 bits to support older Hyper-V.

Changing the setting to enable it, it's a workaround for the Intel® VT-d function due to an operating system(OS) issue when booting up the system with Windows server 2019*, this setting needs to be enabled for a Intel® VT-d enabling boot.

Additional information

The information can be found in the BIOS Setup Utility User Guide For the Intel® Server Board D50TNP and M50CYP family (Page 32, point 22 Limit CPU PA to 46 bits)
