Computer Freezes on Windows Automatic Repair Screen

NUC kits and NUC systems with a preinstalled operating system and Intel Optane.

Summary

This is a problem with the Operating System, and necessitates an OS reinstall.

Description

Stuck on the Automatic repair screen and unable to boot Windows.

Resolution

For NUC kits and pre-built desktop systems:
Reinstall the operating system.

For NUC units with a preinstalled operating system and Intel Optane. Make sure to set the BIOS to non-Optane prior to reinstalling the operating system and configure the BIOS with the steps provided below, also reinstall the Intel Optane drivers in Windows using the Intel Optane application.

To reset to non-Optane:

  1. Open the BIOS
  2. Select Settings > Advanced >Intel Rapid Storage Technology
  3. Select Intel PCIe* (Optane module with serial number) > Select Reset to non-Optane
  4. Save changes and boot to Windows again.

Open Optane application in order to re-enable the Intel Optane module
