How to Resolve the "Power Unit Failure" Error Message in System Event Log (SEL)

Description

The server restarts frequently, and the System Status LED is solid Amber.

The Power Unit Failure  error message occurs in System Event Log (SEL).

Resolution

  1. Remove and reapply the alternating current (AC) power.
  2. Verify that all power cables and adapters are connected properly (AC cables as well as the cables between the power supply unit (PSU) and system components).
  3. Ensure the baseboard BIOS/firmware is the latest. See Intel® Servers BIOS/Firmware Update How-to Video.
  4. Cross-test the PSUs, if possible.
  5. If the power supply still fails, replace it.
  6. If the problems still exist, replace the power distribution board (PDB).
