“Device Cannot Start: Code 10” Error in the Windows* Device Manager

Description

No matter which Intel® RAID Adapter RSP3WD080E driver has be installed, there is always a yellow bang in the Windows* Device Manager with the message Device cannot start: code 10

Resolution

To properly configure the Intel® RAID Adapter RSP3WD080E (Tri-Mode) follow the next steps:

  1. Configure the system BIOS in UEFI as described in the article: How to Change the Boot Mode (UEFI/Legacy) on Intel® Server Boards
  2. Create the RAID array needed, go to Advanced > PCI configuration > UEFI option ROM control > locate the RAID controller model
  3. Proceed with the RAID volume creation (if the system was configured in Legacy, delete any previous RAID array created)
  4. Launch Windows* Setup and proceed with the operating system installation
  5. Load the proper RAID controller driver
