Environment

Operating System

Windows® 10, 64-bit*
Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) drivers 18.31.6.1039 and 17.9.0.1007 Windows 10 Pro 20H2 (19042.685) GIGABYTE® Z490 GAMING X (rev. 1.0) Intel® Z490 Express Chipset 2x ST2000DM008 HDDs in RAID-1 3x ST16000VE000 HDDs in RAID-5

Description

Unable to determine possible root causes that may trigger an unexpected RAID rebuild. There are some system events related to Microsoft-Windows-Storage-Storport/Operational, but unable to identify the root cause of the issue.

Resolution

RAID rebuilds could occur due to the SSD (solid-state drive) or HDD (hard disk drive) integrity or even SATA ports on the motherboard. Back up all data before proceeding

  1. Disable the RAID Volume in the Intel® Optane Memory and Storage Management application (See Section 4.10.3 in the Intel® RST User Guide.
  2. Check the health of each of the SSD/HDD's in the system with diagnostic tools typically available from the drive manufacturer (Example Intel® Memory and Storage Tool)
  3. Contact the computer manufacturer for possible BIOS updates
