Steps to resolve Error Code 28 in Device Manager or Event Viewer
When looking in Windows Device Manager or Event viewer, Error Code 28 appears showing the error message: "The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)".
According to Error codes in Device Manager in Windows, Error Code 28 refers to a missing driver for the piece of hardware that the error appears on in Device Manager.
To resolve this error, install the latest driver for the device showing the error. Choose one of the following options to download the correct driver:
- Option 1 (Recommended): Install and run the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA).
- This utility will automatically install drivers for devices it identifies.
- Option 2: Manually download drivers from Download Center by searching for your specific system model (ex. NUC12WS).
Error Code 28 can appear for different types of devices including but not limited to Intel® Graphics, Intel® Wireless, Intel® Ethernet Connection, Bluetooth, Realtek* Audio, etc.
Error Code 28 may also appear in Device Manager under "Other Devices" showing just a general description of the device. Examples include, but are not limited to, Base System Device, Network Controller, Graphics Adapter, PCI device, or Unknown Device.
