Cannot Detect External Audio Synthesizers as Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI)

Content Type: Troubleshooting   |   Article ID: 000058922   |   Last Reviewed: 05/19/2022

Environment

Operating System

Windows® 10 family

Description

External Audio Synthesizers are not detected as Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) output devices due to a conflict between Intel® Smart Sound and the audio driver of the laptop unit.

Resolution

  • Install only the drivers provided by the laptop manufacturer to get better support in the system since the audio driver comes as part of the driver for Intel® Graphics controller.
  • In case the manufacturer driver did not resolve the issue, may try installing the generic drivers from Intel® Graphics Drivers and Software.
  • Reinstall the Intel Graphics Driver and Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST) driver.
  • Contact the OEM since Intel ISST is only provided by the computer manufacturer.
