Will the Memory Frequency Downgrade When Installing More DIMMs on a Motherboard?

BUILT IN - ARTICLE INTRO SECOND COMPONENT
Summary

Information on the frequency of DRAM when using different DIMMs speed in a motherboard

Description

Need to know if the RAM frequency will change when installing more DIMMs on a motherboard.

Resolution

The frequency will not change when using the same compatible memory speed in a motherboard. If the speed is mixed then the motherboard will downgrade to the lowest frequency of the supported DIMMs.

Make sure that DRAMs are compatible with the processor and the motherboard.

Refer to your motherboard vendor for DRAM information and support.

Additional information

The memory specifications for Intel® processors can be found on product specification pages (ARK). Also refer to How to Find Memory Requirements and Compatibility of Intel® Processors.
