Summary
Steps to resolve error when Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU) does not launch
Description
When trying to open the Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU), the system shows an error:
Unable to start Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility. If there is another performance tuning application running, you must close it before trying to start this application.
Resolution
This error can occur for a couple of reasons:
- Sometimes Intel® XTU service or driver might be not transferred correctly when upgrading the operating system from Windows® 10 to Windows 11*. This can cause Intel® XTU not to launch or start.
- When the user has tried to install the Intel® XTU on top of an existing installer without properly uninstalling the previous one. Note that some OEM systems could have Intel® XTU pre-installed.
Follow the steps below to resolve the issue:
- Uninstall the Intel XTU version.
- Go to device manager and remove all the instances of the XTU component driver in the device manager under software components. Refer to How to Uninstall the Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU).
- Reinstall the latest version of Intel® XTU.
