Summary

Memory speed compatibility information with Intel® Xeon® Processors

Description

Memory's speed is rated higher than the Intel® Xeon® Processor's Maximum Memory Speed.

Resolution

It may be possible to use memory rated for higher speeds; however, the memory will be used at a lower speed not higher than the maximum memory speed supported by the processor.

Check the memory and motherboard documentation to see if the lower speed is supported automatically or if there is any motherboard BIOS setting that needs to be configured.

For example, The Intel® Xeon® Silver Processors support DDR4 memory with a maximum speed of 2400 MHz. DDR4-2666 memory may be used with these processors but will be used at a maximum speed of 2400 MHz if supported by both the memory and motherboard.
