Summary

Recommended troubleshooting to resolve Wi-Fi connectivity drops and speed issues.

Description

Some devices on my network experience constant Wi-Fi drops and get speeds between 3-10Mbps where my other devices - PCs, iPad and phone are usually 35 Mbps or more.

Resolution

When experiencing Wi-Fi connectivity drops and slow Upload/Download speed, we recommend checking the following information:

  • Make sure the Access Point (AP) or Wi-Fi router supports the 5 GHz frequency band and is configured for 11ac mode.
    Recommended Settings for 802.11ac Connectivity
  • Check if the AP/router is running the latest firmware.
  • Check for sources of interference (other wireless devices).
  • Run the latest Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) wireless driver. You may want to try a generic version to rule out a software issue.
  • Change the Preferred Band to 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz for testing purposes. If using a 5 GHz band, try channels 36, 40, 44, or 48. We recommend testing 5 GHz if the AP/router supports the 5 GHz frequency band.
