Steps to follow when Device Manager reports an error involving the network connection
Yellow Exclamation Mark in Device Manager for the Intel® Smart Network Interface Card (NIC)
Note |
Device Manager would show: This device cannot start _ code : 10 |
Proceed as follows, depending on the NIC set-up:
- For built-in NICs: If it is not going to be used, disable it from within the mainboard BIOS; check with the board manufacturer if in doubt on how to do this.
- In the case of an external, Peripheral Component Interconnect Express (PCIe*), such as an Intel® Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter: If the Windows* Device Manager conflict follows it; we comment that while Windows® 10 is among the supported Operating Systems (OSs) for this NIC, the driver availability for it is generic (in-box; click here for more information); then proceed as follows:
- Search for the updated driver via Device Manager; see steps 4 through 6 of our How to Manually Install Intel® Network Adapter Drivers in Windows* article.
- Identify and find drivers by going to Intel Download Center and clicking on Ethernet and apply a filter based on your Operating System.
- Run a Windows update and see if this suggests a new driver update.
Note |
In the case of Windows* Server 2016 and later, especially when using the onboard NIC ports, try the latest Intel® Ethernet Adapter Complete Driver Pack by executing its Autorun as follows:
