Summary

Info about Integrated Baseboard Management Controller (Integrated BMC) web console; enabling HTTP/HTTPS connectivity on Intel® Server Board S2600BPB

Description

Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) tools command requested to enable HTTP and HTTPS services of the Integrated Baseboard Management Controller embedded web server when it is disabled in the Intel® Server Board S2600BPB. Same steps also apply to other Intel® Server Products based on the Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processor family.

Resolution

What is IPMI?

IPMI or Intelligent Platform Management Interface allows system health monitoring and management through system components such as the BMC (Baseboard Management Controller), and other satellite components, for example, reading the temperature sensors on memory DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module).

This protocol also allows remote system operation even if there is no operating system installed. You may also monitor a system even if it is powered off.

IPMI will also allow the retrieval of the FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) portion of a system to access its inventory as well as the SDR (Sensor Data Records) to perform system sensor monitoring (temperature, voltage, and so on).

Steps toward the resolution

  1. Make sure BMC is configured:  How to Configure the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) for Remote Monitoring and Control for Intel® Server Board S2600 Family.
  2. Download the Save and Restore System Configuration Utility (SYSCFG) for Intel® Server Boards and Intel® Server Systems Based on Intel® 62X Chipset.
  3. Under Operating System, run:

    $ syscfg /rbmc
    - Wait for 2-3 minutes.

    $ syscfg /rfs
    - Wait for 2-3 minutes.
    - Reboot the system and set up BMC settings again.
    - Check connectivity.

If performing the steps restored the HTTP and HTTPS connectivity, no further action is needed.

Note

Intel® Server's Integrated Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) can be accessed by standard, off-the-shelf terminal, open-sourced, or terminal emulator utilities. One example is the IPMIUtility that allows access to sensor status information and power control. Customers own the risk of using open-source utilities. Intel has no control on these utilities and cannot guarantee any fix with these utilities.
