End of Cisco Compatible eXtensions (CCX) Support for Intel Wireless Adapters
Due to an old and vulnerable version of OpenSSL (0.9.8e) compiled into the Cisco Compatible eXtensions (CCX) component (INTEL-SA-00188), Intel removed the CCX software from the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software version 20.90 onwards for Microsoft Windows 7*, 8.1*, and Windows® 10.
Note | When upgrading an earlier version of Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software to version 20.90 or later, CCX functionality will be removed automatically if it was installed previously. |
CCX software is typically used in an enterprise environment deployed with a Cisco-based wireless infrastructure.
If enterprise customers still require certain CCX functionality like e.g. Fast Reauthentication with CCKM or one of the EAP authentication methods (Like EAP-Fast) that was installed as part of the CCX software, enterprise customers may consider the following available solution:
- Network Access Manager (NAM) as part of the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client software
