How to Fix Error: Monitor Resolution Check Stuck in Blank Screen During SLES 11 SP4 Installation Process

What am I seeing?
The following is the system setup and resulting symptoms:

  1. Install SATA SSDs to the Hot-Swap Back Plane.
  2. Power on the server system.
  3. During POST, press F2 to enter BIOS, and then press F9 to load BIOS default setting.
  4. Go to Boot Maintenance Manager > Advanced Boot Options > set Boot Mode to UEFI Mode.
  5. Set Video BIOS to Legacy.
  6. Use SLES 11 SP4 installation DVD to install the operating system.
  7. During the installation process, the monitor resolution check stuck in blank screen.

 

How to fix it

  1. Make sure that the video mode in BIOS is set to Legacy Video.
  2. After the first reboot, during the OS installation process, press Ctrl+Alt +F1 to get to a terminal prompt.
  3. Copy the ASPEED v1.03 driver package to the local system. ​You can d​o​w​n​l​o​a​d​ ​v103 L​i​n​u​x​/​F​r​e​e​B​S​D​/S​o​l​a​r​i​s​ ​driver package and unzip it to a USB drive.
  4. cd into the Linux directory.
  5. Untar tar ball.
  6. cd into the lxdrv directory.
  7. Run the ./autoupdate.sh force command.
  8. Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to go back to installation screens.
  9. Continue the installation process as normal.
