Troubleshooting steps for NUCs that randomly turn off or freeze.
Description
- System turns off or locks up
- Blue screen errors (BSOD)
- Can happen:
- during startup
- while system is on and in sleep mode
- while software applications or web browsers are open
- while playing games
- when new I/O device was plugged in ex. USB mouse, 3.5mm audio jack
Resolution
Troubleshooting recommendations:
Check the power adapter | Verify that the power adapter works. Test with a different power adapter if one is available. If a different adapter works, contact Intel Customer Support. |
Check memory modules |

Check the drive |

Check for thermal issues | Check if the Intel® NUC shows signs of overheating. |
Check the Network Boot setting in BIOS |
If Network Boot is enabled in BIOS, random restarts or blue screen errors can occur.

Update BIOS, drivers, and firmware | Download and install all the latest BIOS, drivers, and firmware. |
BIOS recovery | Try a BIOS Recovery. |
For issues during gameplay | If playing games, check for a corrupted configuration file for the game. |
