Upgrade from Windows 7* to Windows 8* or 8.1*
We recommend uninstalling all wireless software applications before upgrading to Windows 8* or Windows 8.1*.
Note | For Windows 7* systems with Intel® PROSet/Wireless installed, you must uninstall the software before you upgrade the operating system. |
Click or the topic for details:
Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility
Windows 8* installation can be blocked unless you uninstall Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software prior to the OS upgrade. This only occurs when upgrading from Windows 7* to either Windows 8 or 8.1*.
You can upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 with Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software installed.
Driver-only install
If you only have Intel® wireless drivers installed, Windows 8 or 8.1 installs without errors. Windows 8 or 8.1 only installs an inbox driver if your driver is not the current version.
Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth® technology
Windows 8 and 8.1 installation can be blocked unless you uninstall Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software (Bluetooth®) prior to the OS upgrade.
Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Connection Utility
Uninstall the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Software and update the WiMAX software after Windows 8 is installed. Windows 8 installs correctly with Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Software, but the WiMAX software might not work after the OS upgrade. This only occurs when upgrading from Windows 7 to either Windows 8 or Windows 8.1.
You can upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 with Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Software installed. The Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiMAX Software for Windows 8 is compatible with Windows 8.1. The latest software version is 7.5.
Intel® Wireless Display (Intel® WiDi)
Windows 8 installation installs without errors. After upgrading the OS you need to update Intel® Wireless Display (Intel® WiDi) software. If you are upgrading to Windows 8.1, review the Intel® WiDi transition after upgrading to Windows 8.1.
After upgrading to Windows 8* or Windows 8.1*
Upgrading Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software, Intel® WiFi Connection Utility, or driver only
For all adapters, use the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant (Intel® DSA). The utility recognizes your adapter and automatically installs the wireless driver and software.
See Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software downloads for driver and software files for manual updates.
For Windows 8.1*, software and drivers are available for the following adapters:
- Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
- Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
- Intel® Wireless-N 7260
- Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230

The Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection and the Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN have an in-box Windows 8* driver. We do not support the use of Windows 8 with these adapters. You can ask questions about these adapters on our Community Forum.
Intel® Bluetooth adapters
After upgrading to Windows 8 or 8.1, your Intel® Bluetooth adapter works with the Microsoft-supplied driver. The new Intel Bluetooth adapter features and profiles require you to install Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth® technology.
Intel® WiMAX adapters
After upgrading to Windows 8 or 8.1, your Intel® WiMAX Adapter works with Wi-Fi only. No Windows 8 or 8.1 in-box WiMAX drivers are available. You need to manually download and install the latest WiMAX Connection Utility (including drivers.)
Note | The Intel® WiMAX adapters have been discontinued. See available support options and download link for the latest WiMAX Connection Utility and drivers. |
Intel® My WiFi Dashboard
After upgrading to Windows 8, update your software. Download and install the current version of Intel My WiFi Dashboard software. Intel My WiFi Dashboard is not supported with Windows 8.1.
